With Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer 'Stree 2' roaring at the box office in India, another set of films across genres has hit screens around the country this weekend.From Nani and SJ Suryah-starrer 'Saripodhaa Sanivaaram' to 'A Wedding Story' and 'The Crow', cine-goers have several films to watch this weekend. 1. The Crow | Directed by Rupert Sanders, the gothic superhero film marks a reboot of the popular franchise. It is the fifth film in the franchise and the second after the 1994 classic to adapt the 1989 comic book series by James O'Barr. The film features Bill Skarsgard as Eric, also known as 'The Crow', who is resurrected to take revenge for the deaths of himself and his girlfriend, played by FKA Twigs. 2. Saripodhaa Sanivaaram |The Tamil-language vigilante action thriller film, directed by Vivek Athreya, narrates the story of a man named Surya, who struggles with anger issues and unleashes his fury to fight corruption. 3. A Wedding Story |The Abhinav Pareek directorial is a supernatural horror thriller that revolves around a happy marriage that soon turns into a nightmare after several ominous occurrences haunt the bride and groom families. 4. Pad Gaye Pange |The comedy-drama, directed by Santosh Kumar, talks about Shastri Ji, a retired maths teacher and another person named Ayush, who is a bank manager. It revolves around how their life takes a major twist when both of them are diagnosed with cancer and are in desperate need of money for treatment.It features Samarpan Singh, Rajesh Sharma, Rajpal Yadav, Faisal Malik and Varsha Rekhate among others. 5. Afraid (English) |'Afraid' is a Hollywood science fiction horror film written and directed by Chris Weitz. Starring John Cho, Katherine Waterston and Havana Rose Liu in pivotal roles, the film is based on Curtis and his family, who have been chosen to test a new smart home AI, named as AIA. As the digital assistant starts to learn the family's behaviours and routines, it soon develops self-awareness. This ultimately leads to her becoming too involved with their day-to-day lives.
6. Blue Lock: Episode Nagi |Presenting a fresh perspective to the famous Blue Lock series, 'Blue Lock: Episode Nagi' is focused around Seishiro Nagi, a talented high school student, who feels unmotivated. The film talks about his unexpected journey into the Blue Lock project, specially designed to create Japan’s next top soccer striker.
7. Murshid |After ‘Shekhar Home’, actor Kay Kay Menon has returned with a new series ‘Murshid’, which features him as retired don Murshid Pathan. He is dragged back into the life of the underworld as his former rival Farid implicates Murshid's son in a hazardous scheme. The crime thriller also features Sandeep Chatterjee and Tanuj Virwani. 8. IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack | Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack was released on August 29 on Netflix. The series is about the dramatic events of the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814. 9. The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power – Season 2 |Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The first season was released in the year 2022. It stars Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Sophia Nomvete, and Charlie Vickers. The series serves as a prequel to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ film trilogies. 10, Munjya |Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the Bollywood horror-comedy Munjya continues to enthral audiences even after its successful theatrical run. Featuring Sharvari and Abhay Verma in the lead roles, the film is now available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The film was released in theatres on June 7 and grossed ₹132 crore worldwide. The film is produced by Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner.
