Dracula Has Risen From the Grave | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Time Out Freddie Francis creates some admirable atmosphere and tension in the first half-hour, but ultimately reduces the film to an inconsequential splurge of arbitrary religious and sexual motifs. Alexandra Krystyna Lexi R A must see of Christopher Lee films Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Deke P Actually very good... for 1969. Lots of crucifixes. Saw it on the tv set, 10.14.23. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review DanTheMan 2 Title checks out, Dracula does indeed rise. Mouthful of a title aside, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave is a bit of a minor triumph for Hammer. Their biggest box office success, it mixes the talent of the old and the new feeling like the ultimate amalgamation of Hammer's filmmaking conventions. This one feels like an otherworldly painting, almost dreamlike, with its use of colour-tinted frames that sharply contrast with the dark shadows. With Freddie Francis stepping in for an out-of-commission Terrance Fisher, his adventurous direction helps this film succeed in its stylings. Complemented by the photography of Arthur Grant really heightening the seductive nature of the titular Count, once again played with refined elegance by Lee, whose eyes are frequently and unnervingly bloodshot whenever his sexual drive begins to rev into gear. He even manages to squeak out a line this time. Despite his absence for most of the film, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave makes great use of its cast and crew, milking every scene for maximum visceral impact with Dracula's death-by-crucifix standing as one of the most iconic gothic images ever recorded in cinematic vampire lore. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/23 Full Review CodyZamboni Z A direct sequel to Dracula Prince of Darkness, Movie is watchable, Lee is the whole show, His menacing prescence, and some classic vampire scenes deliver the goods, I also liked the cool climax, and the attractive female cast, But the plodding pace and dumb annoying characters lessen the impact. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review dave s Thanks to some creative lighting, elaborate sets and effective cinematography, the atmosphere in Dracula Has Risen From The Grave is thick with dread and foreboding. Unfortunately, the story is wafer thin and the whole movie eventually becomes a bit of a bore, to the extent that early in the film I had sort of forgotten that it was a Dracula movie. It all has a bit of a ‘been there, done that' vibe to it - Dracula rises from the dead, bites some pretty girls on the neck, and is vanquished by a hero. Despite decent production values and some good performances, it's ultimately just a forgettable and unnecessary addition to the Hammer franchise.
